A South Florida woman learned a valuable lesson over the weekend—never be too trusting of people or technology. While shopping at a Miami Home Depot on Saturday, Camila Rodriguez discovered her Tesla’s recording captured a bold theft from her car. She said she made the mistake of not checking if her car was locked. Rodriguez is now speaking out in order to prevent more thefts from happening, especially during the holiday shopping season. “When I opened the trunk, surprisingly all of my shopping bags were gone,” said Rodriguez. “I think it’s important to identify this person, not because I want to do like a witch hunt or anything, but because I think it’s really important that he doesn’t do this to other people. That it doesn’t go unpunished.”Reviewing the Tesla footage revealed an individual approaching her car with what appeared to be a rag as he used it to access the door handles.“So we went over the recording right then...2 cousins of local man among 11 hostages released by Hamas

Two members of a local man’s family are now back in Israel after they were among 11 hostages released by Hamas on Monday. Jason Greenberg of Needham has been waiting for weeks for any signs Hamas would free his captured family members. On Monday, he said his 12-year-old and 16-year-old cousins had been freed and taken to a hospital to be treated by the Red Cross. Greenberg said his cousins’ father is still being held hostage. Speaking with 7NEWS, Greenberg said he saw a short video clip of his freed relatives, adding that they seemed to be in good physical condition. Once they’re home, Greenberg said, their community will help them adjust. “Once they are able to come home and be welcomed by their families, we will be helping them on the road to recovery, to move on with their lives as 12- and 16-year-old children,” Greenberg said. Greenberg noted his cousins’ resilience, “and their ability to withstand and endure unthinkable circumstances over the past 52 da...Blustery and Bright

Joe West and Ed Montague, two umpires who were on the field for some of the most important moments in Red Sox history, are on the Baseball Hall of Fame’s Contemporary Era ballot this year.Though not exactly popular with players throughout his 44-season career and often criticized for his tendency to inflame, rather than deescalate tense situations on the field, West is likely to be inducted on the basis that he holds the all-time record, with 5,460 games umpired. He’s the only umpire to surpass Hall of Famer Bill “Old Arbiter” Klem, who set the previous record working games between 1904-41.In 1981, West made history as the youngest umpire to work a League Championship Series. It ended up being the first of 10, including the ALCS in ‘03, ‘04, ‘13, and ‘18. He famously declared Dave Roberts safe at second in Game 4 of ‘04, and when Alex Rodriguez infamously swatted the ball out of Bronson Arroyo’s glove in Game 6, it was West’s crew that ruled the Yankee slugger out for interference. ...After the Kowloon brawl on Thanksgiving Eve, Saugus Board of Selectmen anticipates police report

SAN FRANCISCO — Facebook parent Meta Platforms deliberately engineered its social platforms to hook kids and knew — but never disclosed — it had received millions of complaints about underage users on Instagram but only disabled a fraction of those accounts, according to a newly unsealed legal complaint described in reports from The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. The complaint, originally made public in redacted form, was the opening salvo in a lawsuit filed in late October by the attorneys general of 33 states including Massachusetts.Company documents cited in the complaint described several Meta officials acknowledging the company designed its products to exploit shortcomings in youthful psychology such as impulsive behavior, susceptibility to peer pressure and the underestimation of risks, according to the reports.Others acknowledged Facebook and Instagram also were popular with children under age 13 who, per company policy, were not allowed to use the service.Meta sa...US closes border crossing to vehicles and limits traffic at another in response to illegal entries

PHOENIX (AP) — A Texas border crossing was closed to vehicles Monday, and traffic at an Arizona crossing was limited to shift more resources to illegal entries, U.S. authorities said in the latest sign of how fast-changing migration routes are challenging the government to keep up.Customs and Border Protection said it was closing one of two bridges to vehicles in Eagle Pass, Texas, a town of about 30,000 people that, for a while last year, was the busiest corridor for illegal crossings. The agency is also reducing vehicle entries in Lukeville, Arizona, a remote desert crossing that has become a major migration route in recent months.“The U.S. is continuing to see increased levels of migrant encounters at the Southwest Border, fueled by smugglers peddling disinformation to prey on vulnerable individuals and encourage migration,” Customs and Border Protection said in a statement. “As we respond with additional resources and apply consequences for unlawful entry...Fire breaks out along I-8 in Mission Valley

MONTREAL — A Quebec judge has denied a request to freeze the assets of a Montreal billionaire accused of paying underage girls for sex.In a ruling released today, Superior Court Justice Eleni Yiannakis says the applicant failed to prove there is a real risk Robert Miller would disappear or hide his assets if he loses a court case brought against him.Miller is facing a class-action lawsuit, which has not yet been authorized, for allegedly paying minors for sex between 1996 and 2006.Until his resignation in February after the allegations against him surfaced in a media report, he was president and CEO of global electronics distributor Future Electronics; he remains owner, and the company is being sold to a Taiwanese firm for US$3.8 billion. Lawyers for the applicant argued that Miller would try to hide his money, and they wanted the judge to stop the sale of the company and freeze his assets unless he paid $200 million to the court pending the outcome of the case.Yiannakis says the ap...Latest news
