Coachella Highlights, Part 2: On the way into the festival in the morning, we heard some people discussing who they were looking forward to checking out. Blackpink was not on that list. “Respect to the music, but it’s just not me,” said that guy. Apparently, he was in the minority. The crowd was simply ecstatic to see Blackpink on Saturday evening, and so they should be. The South Korean pop band have performed at Coachella before but this was the year that they truly arrived. They’re big league, top of their game, and other relative and appropriate superlatives. The light show was spectacular, the songs super-catchy — it was just a joy to behold. The early airborne part of that light show was provided by SKYMAGIC, which saw 500 drones create magic (pictured above). “The 8-minute display opened with a celebration of Coachella favorites from the past twenty years, before transitioning into the world of BLACKPINK, as the global sensation arrived on th...

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The challenge is familiar for the Carolina Hurricanes entering the Stanley Cup playoffs. They’ve established themselves as perennial playoff team, one that has claimed three straight division titles. But they’re again working to turn a strong regular-season run into the deep postseason push that has eluded them of late, starting with a first-round series against the New York Islanders.Game 1 of the best-of-7 series is Monday night.“We’re not looking to just make it past the first or second round, or just have a little bit of success,” Carolina forward Seth Jarvis said. “We want to win the whole thing. I think that’s everyone’s kind of mindset in this group, that we have a group to go deep and a group that wants to make some noise.”There’s been relatively little to criticize in Carolina’s five-year playoff run, the first since the former Hartford Whalers relocated to North Carolina in 1997. They finished third in the league standings...

A zoning amendment passed by the Alexandria City Council will now allow abortion providers to open up shop in commercial and mixed-use areas. The amendment was a response to the council’s resolution 3087, which asked the Planning and Zoning department to check zoning ordinances to make sure there were no impediments to allowing health care providers that provide abortion services to open for business in commercial and mixed use zones in the city.Planning and Zoning recommended amendments be made to zoning code to address inconsistencies in healthcare-related use definitions to ensure that medical offices and clinics, including those that provide abortion services, can be approved by-right in commercial and mixed-use zones. The topic was a heated one with many wanting to be heard.“The establishment of new clinics would benefit our friends and neighbors throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia,” said Matthew Warner, speaking on behalf of the Alexandria Commission for Women. “Additionally...

(CNN) — “El Fantasma de la Ópera” no es solo un ícono de Broadway, es un gigante cultural.Está la partitura de órgano de Andrew Lloyd Webber, decorados suntuosos y disfraces elaborados. Hip-hop star E-40 attributed his ejection from the arena where Saturday’s NBA playoff game between the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors was played to “racial bias.”The rapper, who is from the San Francisco Bay Area, says he addressed a heckler in “an assertive but polite manner” toward the end of Game 1 at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.“Kings security approached me, assumed I instigated the encounter and proceeded to kick me out of the arena,” E-40 said in a statement Sunday, according to ESPN.“Unfortunately, it was yet another reminder that — despite my success and accolades as a musician and entrepreneur — racial bias remains prevalent.
