LOVELAND, Colo. — Police in Loveland are hoping the public can help identify a burglar caught on camera using a rock to smash through a coffee shop. According to the Loveland Police Department, the alleged crime happened around 2 a.m. Monday at Dutch Bros Coffee near West 43rd Street and North Garfield Avenue. “When officers arrived on scene they saw that there was shattered glass all over the outside of one of the doors,” officer Hannah Gleditsch said.  Missing man’s body found in ‘clandestine grave’ Gleditsch says the business has high-quality security cameras that captured detailed images of the suspected burglar. The person appears to be a male wearing a blue hoodie, black pants, black Converse shoes and a black backpack. “Even though this person did have gloves on, they did have a mask on, they were doing their best to kind of stay under the radar with who their identity was, but it’s still very helpful they have clear imaging,” she said.Video shows thief smash...

Open letter: It’s time for an EU-wide ban on fur farming

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 03:37:28 GMT

Dear Stella Kyriakides, commissioner for health and food safety,The ongoing revision of the EU Animal Welfare legislation represents a unique opportunity to propose legislation for ending the breeding and killing of animals on fur farms. Since there are no economically viable alternatives to the current housing system based on cages, a prohibition of fur farming is the only acceptable solution to ensure the welfare of fur animals. In May 2020, the European Commission adopted the Farm to Fork Strategy, announcing its intention to revise the current animal welfare legislation to align it with the latest scientific evidence. As scientists, we applaud this urgent initiative. In this letter, we want to especially focus on the serious welfare problems on fur farms. There is no doubt that the practice of farming animals for fur breaches the most fundamental principles of animal welfare. It has never been possible to design a farming system in line with the species-specific needs of animals b...

Chicago Bulls’ pattern of slow starts continues in a 105-92 loss in Milwaukee that locks in their postseason seeding

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 03:37:28 GMT

The opening minutes of Wednesday’s loss to the Milwaukee Bucks were an echo of an all-too-familiar pattern for the Chicago Bulls.Even without Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Bucks put the Bulls on their heels within minutes, and the offense had no answers. DeMar DeRozan missed two shots at the start of a 3-for-12 night, Patrick Williams and Patrick Beverley clanked 3-pointers off the iron and Zach LaVine made only 1 of 6 attempts from long range.By the end of the first quarter, the Bulls had scored only 21 points as they shot a brutal 9-for-24 (37.5%) from the field. The 105-92 loss that followed the sluggish start locked in the Bulls as the 10th seed in the Eastern Conference, meaning they will travel to face the ninth seed — likely the Toronto Raptors — for a play-in tournament game next Wednesday. And with the stakes raised in a single-elimination game, the Bulls know they can’t repeat the same first-quarter weakness if they hope to stay alive in the postseason.&...
